Germany Soccer Coach Hansi Flick Extends Contract Until 2024
German Football Association Announces Contract Extension for National Team Manager
Flick to Lead Germany Through UEFA EURO 2024 on Home Soil
The German Football Association (DFB) has announced that Hansi Flick will continue as head coach of the Germany national soccer team until 2024. The contract extension comes after Flick led Germany to the Round of 16 at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where they lost to eventual champions Argentina.
Flick, 58, took over as Germany coach in August 2021, following the resignation of Joachim Löw after 15 years in charge. Under Flick, Germany has won 11 of 17 matches, including a 9-0 thrashing of Liechtenstein in a World Cup qualifier.
The DFB president, Bernd Neuendorf, said he was delighted that Flick had agreed to extend his contract. "Hansi Flick is an outstanding coach who has done an excellent job with the national team," Neuendorf said. "We are convinced that he is the right man to lead us to success at the UEFA EURO 2024 on home soil."
Flick said he was "very happy" to extend his contract with Germany. "I am proud to be the coach of this team and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead," Flick said. "We have a great team with a lot of potential and I am confident that we can achieve great things together."
Germany will host the UEFA EURO 2024, which will be the first major international soccer tournament to be held in the country since the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Germany will be looking to win its first major trophy since the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
