Ben Sasse Resigns as President of University of Florida
Former Senator to Step Down in 2024
Effective July 31, 2024, Ben Sasse will be resigning from his position as president of the University of Florida.
The former Republican senator from Nebraska announced his decision on Thursday, citing personal reasons for his departure.
Sasse joined the University of Florida as a professor and the 13th president of the 170-year-old institution in February 2023.
During his tenure, Sasse has faced criticism from some faculty members and students who have opposed his conservative political views.
In his resignation letter, Sasse expressed gratitude for his time at the university but stated that he believes it is in the best interest of the institution for him to step down.
The University of Florida will begin a search for a new president immediately.
