Acrylic Nails With Nail Polish Remover

How to Remove Acrylic Nails Safely

Get the Right Tools

You'll need the following tools to remove acrylic nails without damaging your natural ones:

  • Nail file with two grits (100/80 grit if possible)
  • Nail buffer
  • Acetone (not just regular polish remover)
  • Orangewood stick or cuticle pusher
  • Artificial nail clippers

Clip Down the Excess

Before you start filing, use artificial nail clippers to remove excess acrylic from the tips of your nails.

File Off the Top Layer

Using the 100 grit side of your nail file, gently file off the top layer of the acrylic, taking care not to file into your natural nails.

Buff the Surface

Once you've filed off the top layer, use the nail buffer to smooth out the surface of your nails.

Soak in Acetone

Soak your nails in a bowl of acetone for 15-20 minutes, or until the acrylic starts to soften and dissolve.

Tip: If you don't have pure acetone, you can use nail polish remover with acetone. However, it may take longer to dissolve the acrylic.

Gently Push Off Acrylic

Use the orangewood stick or cuticle pusher to gently push off the softened acrylic from your nails. Be careful not to scrape your natural nails.

Moisturize Your Nails

After removing the acrylic nails, your nails may be dry and brittle. Apply a moisturizer to help restore them.
